Elijah of Buxton by Christopher Paul Curtis

Elijah of Buxton
By: Christopher Paul Curtis

This book is historical fiction. It is a really good book.

Elijah of Buxton is about an African-Canadian boy who was born free in Canada. This book takes place during slavery. Elijah was the first child to be born free in Buxton and is really good at chunking rocks and catching fish. One day his friend, Mr. Leroy, gets enough money to buy his family in America out of slavery. When Elijah finds out someone stole the money instead of using it to save Mr. Leroy’s family, he goes to America to get it back.

My favorite character is Elijah and Cooter. Since I’ve already talked about Elijah I’ll talk about Cooter. Cooter is Elijah’s best friend. They go to school together, and Elijah thinks he is not very smart. He’s funny and often gets himself into trouble.

This is a fourth-sixth grade book.

I give this book 4 out of 5 bookworms.   Bookworm
